Aajeevika Bureau's vision is to become a leading agency working to ensure secure and dignified lives of communities dependent on migration and labour. The Bureau's mission is to provide lasting solutions to economic and socio-legal problems of migrant workers - directly as well as through partners - by creating replicable models offering services and security at both source and destination.

Migration Resource Center is special unit within Aajeevika Bureau which serves as a technical support body on design and implementation of migration services. One of the primary roles of the MRC is to take the experience of Aajeevika Bureau to other parts of the country and provide necessary assistance to organisations in designing and incubation of migration programs. The center also functions as a knowledge hub on migration collating data and experiences across locations and partner organisations.

The specific activities of the MRC include –

  1. Design and Development of migration initiatives in high migration pockets of India
  2. Providing technical Support, capacity building and advisory inputs in program implementation to organisations
  3. Facilitating inter-organisational learning and exchange of best practices across locations
  4. Knowledge building and collation of data on migration patterns, issues and solutions  

Collection of Migration Data at various locationsThe center started in November 2009 and so far, it has facilitated design and implementation of 30 migration programs covering eight states in India – Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Orissa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat. The program now spans 38 districts, 46 blocks and 476 GPs in the rural areas. At the destination, it has presence in 16 cities and towns. A total of 49 walk-in resource and information centers for Migration services information displayed in a Shramik Soochna Kendra in Orissa migrant workers have come up at these locations. These walk-in centers known as Shramik Sahayata evam Soochna Kendra at most places, offer solutions on identity, training and placement, legal aid and linkage to social security schemes.

Recently, this community of 30 plus migration practitioners has come together as a Coalition, namely National Coalition for Security of Migrant Workers [NACSOM] to bring public attention to the problems and concerns of migrant workers and call for an effective policy response at various levels – local, state and national.
