With IKEA Foundationís support, Aajeevika Bureau will be deepening its work with women, children and girls from high migration, adivasi areas of southern Rajasthan. Over the next three years, we will work closely with 15,000 migrant households. Through a convergence of key services and interventions, such as primary healthcare for families, improved nutrition and development of young children, access to critical public entitlements, empowerment of women, and skills training of adolescent girls Ė we hope to improve basic capacities and strengthen livelihood outcomes of these vulnerable families.
Aajeevika Bureau, in partnership with the Work in Freedom Programme, ILO, New Delhi recently organized the first chapter in a series of policy round tables on labour migration in India. Aimed at bringing together various stakeholders in a dialogue to enhance migration outcomes for vulnerable migrant workers, we had rich and stimulating discussions on a range of challenges that the public systems in both sending and receiving states are faced with.
M Sivasankar from the Govt. of Kerala, Gayathri Kalia from MoRD, Anannya Bhattacharjee from Society for Labour and Development, Sudhir Katiyar from Prayas Center for Labour Research and Action, Marina Faetanini from UNESCO, Subhash Bhatnagar from Nirmana, Prof. Pushpendra Singh from TISS and G. Sampath from The Hindu were some of the experts who participated in the event and gave their valuable inputs.
We began this process in Delhi and are hoping to take these important discussions to prominent migration corridors in order to advance the mandate of bringing voice and visibility to the millions of migrant workers in the country....

Aajeevika Bureau in partnership with Tata Institute of Social Sciences organized a 9 day certificate course on labour migration -perspectives for practice. The course was scheduled from 18th to 27th of September, 2016.
A total of 26 participants from 12 states of India participated in the course, with long years of experience in working on migration, trafficking issues in high migration geographies of India. The course was meant to help practitioners and students build a stronger theoretical lens to understanding labour migration in India and develop skills of reflexivity and action-research to aid sharper interventions on the ground.
The course involved class-room sessions, case-based learning, field visits and simulation exercises under the guidance of distinguished faculty members drawn from JNU, IIM-Ahmedabad, TISS-Mumbai and from Aajeevika.

We are excited to share that Labour Line, the toll- free helpline run by Aajeevika Bureau to provide dedicated counsel and support to workers in distress, has recently received formal recognition from the Department of Labour and Employment, Government of Rajasthan. The impact of this has been extremely positive- the average number of calls has spiraled following the signing of the MoU. In the last 3 months, we have received an average of 1000 calls per month, where we have been able to achieve a resolution rate of 60%, facilitating a total compensation of Rs. 58,21,603 to workers in the last quarter alone.
In collaboration with the Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare (BoCW) Board , we have also set up facilitation centers across 5 blocks in Southern Rajasthan to enable the linkage of workers to different schemes. We also actively provide information on various BoCW schemes through the Labour Line and encourage workers to get enrolled. We hope that this will be a high-impact partnership that has the potential to provide a real solution to the problems faced by workers in the informal sector.
