Skill Training and Employment

Our Skill Training Employability and Placement (STEP) Academy is a unique learning institution dedicated to building technical and life skill competencies among rural youth. STEP Academy reaches youth who are at the threshold of starting work or have entered labour markets in low waged, hazardous work. It has designed several innovative skilling programmes that help bring technical skills to youth within a short duration.

Training methods combine simplified theory with practical learning and internships opportunities for trainees. While sound technical training is core, strong emphasis is put on building life skills using a wide range of innovative and interactive tools.

STEP’s training programmes are offered through various formats:

Hunar: This is a 30-day residential training programme. This programme immerses youth in skills related to construction, light engineering, services, and entrepreneurship

Unnati: This consists of 1 to 2 weeklong training sessions, designed to promote entrepreneurial skills to help trainees set up small businesses, build market linkages and to provide exposure to new technologies.

On Job Training: This is a unique programme to train youth who are employed and are unable to take a break from work to be trained in classroom settings. On Job Training has created new possibilities of skilling up vast numbers of young workers particularly in the construction sector who can earn as they also learn

Vishesh: This is a pre-placement preparatory program focusing on helping youth prepare for interviews and entry exams - through practice sessions in written tests, public speaking, and interviews.

Upon successful completion of training, STEP trainees are awarded certificates. Post training, many are assisted in finding first job opportunities and others are provided financial assistance and guidance for starting up their own enterprises.

STEP Academy has trained thousands of rural youth – both men and women. It has played a vital role in improving wages, business incomes and job security for youth from disadvantaged background. STEP constantly searches for new opportunities to create livelihoods through skilling in the world of work. It experiments with tools and methods that can up-skill workers in promising markets while also helping youth find stable income opportunities closer to their rural homes.

The STEP Academy is headquartered in an independent residential campus in Udaipur with a capacity to train up to 40 youth every month. STEP also runs two satellite centres in Udaipur and Dungarpur district respectively where skilling opportunities are regularly imparted.
